Tattoos keeping Villegas focused, in the hunt

ST. SIMONS ISLAND, Ga. – Camilo Villegas skipped this year’s Olympics because he wanted to focus on keeping his PGA Tour card. Still, he came up short, finishing 152nd on the FedEx Cup points list.

Although he said that, physically, his game is in good shape, he’s been struggling mentally, so he decided to give himself a few reminders to help keep things in perspective on the golf course.

On his left wrist he has a tattoo that says, “Attitude,” and on his right wrist he has the phrase, “Positive Energy.”

“It’s a little reminder - that’s all I can control. Trust me, it’s a lot easier said than done when things aren’t going your way, but the last few weeks I’ve felt more comfortable,” he said.

After starting the fall portion of the schedule with two solid finishes (T-26 at the Sanderson Farms Championship and T-28 at the OHL Classic), Villegas moved into contention with a third-round 64 at the RSM Classic that included birdies on each of his final four holes. He will begin Sunday’s final round a stroke behind leader Mackenzie Hughes.

“It’s a crazy game but I’ve been feeling a lot more comfortable, more composed,” he said. “I’m trying to realize the situation is there and look forward to not caring so much about the outcome.”
