Clarke hires new caddie

Open champion Darren Clarke has hired veteran caddie Phil Morbey on a temporary basis as the Ulsterman prepares for a three-event run in the United States.

Ending a relationship that began last May, Clarke fired former looper John Mulrooney after Clarke missed the cut at the Abu Dhabi Championship. Player and caddie said the split was amicable.

Clarke will play in next week’s WGC-Accenture Match Play Championship, the Honda Classic and the WGC-Cadillac Championship at Doral. He has not registered a top-10 finish since winning at Royal St. George’s last July.

Morbey has been working with Englishman Danny Willett. The caddie has been on the bag for 41 victories, including 24 with Ian Woosnam.
