PITTSFORD, N.Y. – Yani Tseng pulled out of Wednesday’s Wegmans LPGA Championship pro-am because of illness and also canceled her news conference appearance in the afternoon.
Tseng, who won the 2011 Wegmans LPGA Championship in a 10-shot runaway, is being treated for what is believed to be tonsillitis. She is battling a sore throat but also has inflammation affecting her gums and teeth.

Tseng’s coach, Gary Gilchrist, said she intends to play Thursday but needed the extra rest on Wednesday. A player is allowed to pull out of one LPGA pro-am per year without penalty.
Tseng said the doctor treating her did deliver good news when she was examined earlier in the week.
“He told me I can eat ice cream, it will make me feel better,” Tseng said.
