BETHESDA, Md. – For the second consecutive week the PGA Tour gave caddies the option to wear bibs in the afternoon wave at Congressional because of heat concerns.
Caddies on Friday afternoon at the AT&T National were given the option and most went without as temperatures soared into the high 90s. During last week’s opening round at the Travelers Championship, caddies in the late wave also were allowed to work without a bib.
According to tournament director Mark Russell there is no hard rule on when caddies are allowed to forgo bibs.
“Once it gets up to 100 (degrees) we like to give them the option,” Russell said. “It’s a judgment call.”
At this week’s Web.com Tour event in Indiana officials plan to send players off both the first and 10th tees and earlier than scheduled in an attempt to avoid temperatures that have hovered above 100 degrees all week.
