After struggling to get his 2013 season off the ground, Jhonattan Vegas took to Twitter to announce that he had surgery this week on his left shoulder.

'Unfortunately my friends I had to have surgery on my left shoulder yesterday,' Vegas wrote Friday. 'It was a total success.

'I feel like I had to put an end to this problem because it was affecting my game,' he continued in a second tweet. 'I'm going to work hard to come back stronger than ever.'

Those comments were prefaced by several written in Spanish, which indicated that the rehabilitation process could sideline the 2011 Humana Challenge champion for up to six months.

In three starts on the PGA Tour in 2013, Vegas has yet to make a cut and now may not tee it up again until the wraparound 2013-14 season begins this fall. The Venezuelan notched top-10 finishes last year at both The Players (T-7) and the AT&T National (T-4), but made only three cuts across his final seven starts of 2012, with a T-22 finish at the Open serving as his best result since July.
