Round 2 at Zozo Championship canceled due to heavy rain

CHIBA, Japan – Overnight rain saturated Narashino Country Club and officials canceled play early Friday at the Zozo Championship.

Second round tee times had been moved up an hour to avoid the storm, which is a combination of Typhoon Bualoi and a low pressure system moving across central Japan, but most players never made it to the course.

Narashino had been doused with rain for more than a week and quickly became unplayable as the storm dropped about a half an inch of rain Friday morning with three to five inches still in the forecast.

The second round is scheduled to begin on Saturday at 6:30 a.m. local, Friday at 5:30 p.m. ET, and officials will not re-pair after Round 2. The plan is to complete the third round early Sunday and re-pair for the final round.

“Although we are losing the golf course for the day today, we still feel very confident that we’ll be able to complete four rounds of golf by Sunday,” said Gary Young, a vice president of rules and competitions for the PGA Tour. “If we’re not able to complete play by Sunday, we will go into Monday.”
