PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla. – Fred Couples is a possibility as an American assistant Ryder Cup captain.

Tiger Woods is a high probability as a member of the team.

That was the word Tuesday from American captain Davis Love III as Love prepares to play the Honda Classic.

“I would love to have Freddie,” Love said. “He’s high on my list.”

Love said he’s waiting, in part, for PGA Tour commissioner Tim Finchem to tell him whether Couples is going to lead the American Presidents Cup team for a third time.

Love also made it clear he wants Woods on his team when the Americans meet Europe at Medinah in September.

“If he’s healthy, he’s going to make the team one way or another,” Love said.

Woods is 32nd on the American Ryder Cup points list.

Love also reaffirmed he is trying to make the team as a playing captain. He’s 39th on the American Ryder Cup points list.
