Scottie Scheffler has drawn plenty of Tiger Woods comparisons in recent years, and in one facet, he’s about to surpass him.
Scheffler is on the verge of becoming No. 1 in official career earnings on the PGA Tour. With his victory at the FedEx St. Jude Championship, Scheffler is only $1.04 million from overtaking Woods atop the money mountain.
The current world No. 1 collected $3.6 million from his 21st PGA Tour title to surpass Rory McIlroy for No. 2 on the list. Scheffler is now at $119,964,411. Woods, who has held the top spot since Feb. 13, 2000, stands at $120,999,166.
McIlroy finished 66th in Memphis, Tennessee, and is now at $116,488,972.
These totals do not include bonus money — of which Scheffler and McIlroy have accumulated tens of millions more in recent years — only official earnings from PGA Tour tournaments.
Of course, two playoff events remain, both with official purses. The BMW Championship will pay out another $3.6 million to the winner and the Tour Championship will offer $10 million to the victor.
That gives both Scheffler and McIlroy opportunities to pass Woods — and each other.
