History was made Sunday at Shinnecock Hills.
Wyndham Clark carried a six-shot lead into the final round of the 126th U.S. Open, with Scottie Scheffler among four players tied for second.
While Schefflerβs potential for a career Grand Slam was the talk of the town, it was Clark who would silence his critics in the crowd and take home his second U.S. Open win in just four years.
Despite the rest of the field putting on the pressure all day on Sunday, Clark was able hang on to win by a stroke, narrowly defeating Sam Burns.
Scheffler finished tied for fourth at even par and though he didnβt complete the Grand Slam, he was serenaded on the course to celebrate his 30th birthday.

Scottie Scheffler is within four of Wyndham Clarkβs lead at Shinnecock Hills β and this is officially anybodyβs tournament.
Clarkβs wire-to-wire has reached its thinnest margin in days after he carded a 6 at the par-5 No. 5.
Sam Burns, who has been on a birdie bonanza on the front nine to get to 4 under, is now one off Clark.
Sam Burns is walking onto the ninth tee box just two shots off the lead over Wyndham Clark at the U.S. Open.
Itβs not a full on front nine collapse as Burns has done most of the work but ... Clark is certainly in a lot of trouble on 5 and Burns could be co-leader in no time.
Ludvig Γ berg, Joaquin Niemann and Peter Uihlein are all in the clubhouse after carding respective 4-under 66s in the final round of the 126th U.S. Open.
While someone may go lower than that trio, it should be noted after just two players got in with scores in the 60 yesterday β Emiliano Grillo and Scottie Scheffler.
Sunday was expected to play easier, and that has been the case. Rookie Ben James has the second lowest score of the day with a 67.
Among those looking to break 66 are Sam Burns, J.T. Poston and Tyrell Hatton.
J.T. Poston, coming off a win at the Memorial Tournament earlier this month, just climbed to a tie for third with Keith Mitchell at Shinnecock Hills after sinking a massive birdie putt.
Poston has six final round birdies and sits at 1 under on the tournament entering the par-4 No. 13.
He gave two shots back at 2 and 10.
In addition to the Happy Birthday being sung to his playing partner, Wyndham Clark is facing the wrath of Canada during his final round at Shinnecock Hills.
Before Wyndham's tee shot, someone yelled, "Canada hates you!" A few "Get in the bunkers!" as the ball was airborne.

Will be Wyndham versus the world today. https://t.co/ZLkEQ0rLg0
Clark wore a Jack Hughes Team USA hockey sweater during his third round in Toronto last week. He went on to finish third in that tournament and has gone on to carry momentum into a wire-to-wire lead at the 126th U.S. Open.
Heβs in trouble on 4 though, with Sam Burns β not Scheffler β applying some serious pressure on Sunday. Clarkβs lead is three but could be as little as one soon if this dangerous situation goes fully awry.
Through three holes whatever crowd advantage Scottie Scheffler holds over Wyndham Clark has yet to bare out.
But do not be mistaken, there is a tilt who the gallery favors at Shinnecock Hills today.
The crowd around the first tee is overwhelming for Scottie; they even sang him happy birthday.

Wyndham got a few βWyndham!βsβ but that was it.
Joe Russell had a special Fatherβs Day moment earlier today at Shinnecock Hills getting to caddie for his son, Miles, to close out the 17-year-old phenomβs final round in his major debut.
Sam Burns made a big time putt from 27 feet at No. 5 to cut the lead to three shots.
Wyndham Clark did have a three shot lead earlier in the round on Clark but it was prior to his bogey at par-3 second hole.
Burns began the day seven shots back of the lead after going 71-68-71 for an even score over three rounds at Shinnecock. Heβs gone on to birdie three of his five opening hole Sunday.

Scottie Scheffler had a chance at a two-shot swing at 2 but his birdie putt went just right of the hole.
Clark did bogey the hole after taking a drop off the green before his par attempt so Scheffler gains a stroke. Scheffler is at even, trailing the wire-to-wire leader by six shots in the final round.
Sam Burns moves within four shots of the lead. Heβs through four holes.

Two lengths within the sprinkle head.
Thatβs the local drop rule that Wyndham Clark is exercising after running into a bit of trouble off the green at the par-3 second hole at Shinnecock.
If he can save par here itβll certainly be among his best shots of the week.
Scottie Scheffler has bogeyed the first hole at Shinnecock, losing a stroke to Wyndham Clark who safely par putted moments earlier.
Clark grazed the left edge of the cup on his birdie attempt.
Scheffler on his par putt came up short and settled for the opening 5.
As far as the opening pairing goes, Clark holds a seven shot lead on his playing partner. Sam Burns is closest to the lead at five back through three holes.
The final pairing at the 126th Open is off the tee and playing the first hole.
Wyndham Clark has a five shot lead over Scottie Scheffler. Itβll be tracked here over the next 18 holes.
Clark is hole high after two shots, while Scheffler is in trouble early.
In his final amateur start, Jackson Koivun shoots 68 to post 5 over par, two shots clear of Miles Russell (70), with whom he played both weekend rounds.
Ryder Cowan is at 3 over with 14 holes remaining in his final round.
Miles Russell and Jackson Koivun are at 6 over with Ryder Cowan leading the way at 3 over. However, Russell and Koivun are almost done, and Cowan has 16 holes remaining.
