???: John Daly announced that he would be returning to the PGA Tour, following a six-month suspension, at next week’s St. Jude Classic. Daly has been playing on the European Tour this season, ?? in last week’s European Open. His last event in the U.S. was a missed cut last November in Las Vegas.
Daly has done a lot to revive his career ' and perhaps his life ' while playing in Europe, highlighted by a runner-up showing in Italy. Now comes the real test. He’s fitter than he’s been in years ' physically and mentally, is playing better than he has in years, and, at 43, finally seems to comprehend that his opportunities are running out. More than anything, what he’s effectively done is rid himself of excuses for failure. We’ll see how long he’s comfortable playing ' and living ' without that net.
