AKRON, Ohio – After the wind-whipped Open Championship, Rory McIlroy said he was looking forward to getting back to America and calmer conditions. Earlier this week he tweeted that this week’s WGC-Bridgestone Invitational was “one of my favorite events.” On Wednesday at Firestone the Ulsterman took the ultimate transatlantic step, saying he was “leaning towards taking my (PGA Tour) card again.”

McIlroy was a Tour member in 2010 but turned down his card this year, in large part because of the scheduling demands of the FedEx Cup playoffs. On Wednesday he said it was the weather at Royal St. George’s that convinced him to return to the U.S. circuit.

“I feel as if my game really suits playing courses over here,” he said. “My favorite events seem to be on this side of the pond.”
