Tiger Woods’ third round of 5-over 75 on Saturday left him five shots behind Jim Furyk and Graeme McDowell entering the final round of the 112th U.S. Open.
Golf Channel analyst Brandel Chamblee chalked up Woods’ performance to anxiety.
‘He wants to win another major championship so bad to shut everybody up,’ Chamblee said Sunday on ‘Live From the U.S. Open.’ ‘I honestly believe the pressure got to him and he choked. He was tangled up with some technical issues. I don’t think he is able to correct things like he used to be able to.”
Woods’ Saturday score matched his effort in 2003 U.S. Open at Olympia Fields for his worst third-round score in his U.S. Open career as a pro.
The 14-time major winner has never won a major without at least a share of the 54-hole lead. He trails by five shots entering the final round.
