LYTHAM ST. ANNES, England – Brandt Snedeker played 40 holes of the Open Championship without a bogey. Then the floodgates opened.
The calm, cool, collected, three-time PGA Tour winner was leading at Royal Lytham & St. Annes, then made bogey on five of the next seven holes to drop from the top of the leaderboard. He fought back with birdies on two of the last three holes to salvage 73 and is tied for second place with Graeme McDowell, four shots behind Adam Scott.
“One of those days,” Snedeker said. “Played very poorly on about as easy as we’re going to see it. I’m not happy with it at all, by any means.
“I’ve still got a chance tomorrow. I’ve come from behind before. I can do it again tomorrow.”
Snedeker is looking for his second victory of the year. He was the beneficiary of the Kyle Stanley disaster on the 72nd hole of the Farmers Insurance Open this year at Torrey Pines.
