Getty Images senior writer Jason Sobel won his second career first-place award Friday when the Golf Writers Association of America announced its annual writing awards.

Sobel won the daily features category with a piece on Jungle Bird, the infamous deforestation protester who hijacked Webb Simpson’s trophy ceremony at the U.S. Open at The Olympic Club.

Assistant managing editor Al Tays earned an honorable mention in the same category for a story he wrote in his Challenged Tour series featuring Greg DiGirolamo, who battled back from a horrific neck injury to give back to the game he loves.

Additionally, Sobel, Mercer Baggs, Rex Hoggard and Randall Mell earned an honorable mention in the special projects category for a series on 1912, and how the year forever changed the game because of the births of Byron Nelson, Ben Hogan and Sam Snead.

All winners will be honored at the GWAA’s annual awards dinner April 10 in Augusta, Ga.
