Rory McIlroy is now the No. 1 player in the world. With a final round of 1-under 69, McIlroy won the Honda Classic by two shots over Tiger Woods and Tom Gillis at 12-under.
Down the stretch, McIlroy made critical short putts to complete a pair of up-and-downs from bunkers to secure the victory. For the week, McIlroy led the field in scrambling.
Woods shot 8-under 62 to mark the best final round in his PGA Tour career. With eagles at Nos. 3 and 18, it was the first time Woods had two eagles in a round since the final round of the 2010 Masters.
Gillis made a 15-foot birdie putt at the final hole to shoot 69, tie Woods and secure his best-ever PGA Tour finish.
Lee Westwood, who played with Woods for the first three days of the event, shot 63 to close at PGA National and take solo fourth.
The win is McIlroy’s third on the PGA Tour and marks a third consecutive year with a victory in the United States.
