Tiger Woods has committed to play in the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational, the final event before the PGA Championship. Woods is a seven-time winner of the tournament, to be contested Aug. 2-5 at Firestone Country Club in Akron, Ohio.
By announcing his commitment early, Woods allows tournament organizers more time to sell tickets with his name on the entry list.
‘This is the earliest Tiger has entered since I’ve been here,’ executive director Don Padgett II, according to the Cleveland Plain-Dealer. ‘Last year he waited until the Thursday or Friday before, which is his right. But having him commit early is a plus.’
Woods last won the event in 2009. He tied for 78th in 2010 – next-to-last among the 80 finishers – and was T-37 last year.
Adam Scott is defending champion of the year’s third World Golf Championships event.
