Ryan Fox birdied the 72nd hole to capture the claret jug. The New Zealander finished one shot clear of Cameron Young, who posted 9 under more than two hours prior.
Fox shot 62-68 over the weekend to finish at 10 under and claim the first major championship of his career at 39 years old. The victory marked just the third time in history a Kiwi took home the Claret Jug.
Overnight leader Sam Burns shot 2-over 72 to end two back in solo third. Scottie Scheffler (67) and Tommy Fleetwood (68) tied for fourth.

Scheffler is one back on the final hole...
S.W. Kim carded his first bogey of the day on 11 and now shares the lead at 9 under with Cam Young in the clubhouse.
Scheffler now sits at 1 stroke back from the lead after a wild series of shots on the 17th hole.
After an errant tee shot, he then hit a risky second shot that landed him in a Temporary Immovable Obstruction area, after a free drop he chipped onto the green, setting up a miraculous birdie putt.

A poorly-timed first bogey for Cameron Young on the 18th hole sent the 2026 Players champ back down the leaderboard at the 154th Open Championship.
Young is still in the clubhouse as the tournament leader after posting a 6-under 64 (good for the low score for the day at Royal Birkdale).
He walked off the 18th green shaking his head disappointed he didnโt get to 10 under. Young sits T-2 with Ryan Fox at 9 under with about a two-hour wait ahead.

Young is 7 under through his final round at Royal Birkdale with one hole to go. He sits tied with Si Woo Kim for the tournament co-lead.
Si Woo Kim just made a considerable step toward his first major victory with a birdie on the par-4 sixth.
He now has the solo lead at 10 under, with Young, Burns and Fox a shot back and sitting T-2.

Another bogey from Sam Burns on the front nine has created a four-way tie on the leaderboard at Royal Birkdale.
Si Woo Kim and Ryan Fox are playing their front nines still and sit T-1 at 9 under.
Cameron Young has just two holes to play and is also tied at 9 under. Heโs set to be in for a more than two hour wait once he signs his card and makes it into the clubhouse.
Scottie Scheffler and Tommy Fleetwood are applying considerable additional pressure at 8 under.
Alex Fitzpatrick perfectly summarized his 7-over 77 in the final round at The Open.
โIt was crap. No two ways about it,โ he told reporters on Sunday at Royal Birkdale. โMy putting was woeful. I thought some of the pins yesterday were terrible, just brutally honest. And, yeah, mixed with me not playing very good at all, thatโs what it is.โ
Fitzpatrick said heโll play in the Wyndham Championship in August but plans to skip the 3M Open and the Rocket Classic.
โWent to school nearby,โ said the Wake Forest grad. โExcited for the event, but more excited for two weeks off.โ
Since joining the Tour in April, the younger brother of Matt Fitzpatrick has collected five T-10 finishes.
The 27-year-old Fitzpatrick said he was frustrated but wouldnโt let it carry over the rest of the season.
โIโll go home, and Iโll be upset or disappointed for another hour or so, and I think it will kick in again of just how crazy this year has been,โ he said.
Birdie putts are becoming suddenly contagious at Royal Birkdale.
Moments after Scottie Scheffler moved to 8 under, Tommy Fleetwood met the moment with a birdie putt of his own at the 8th hole to tie Scheffler and move within two shots of the lead.
And yes, the fans went wild for their hometown hero moved into T-5 on the leaderboard.
The worldโs top-ranked player is on the move at Royal Birkdale, making his fourth birdie on the final round to get to 8 under on the tournament.
Scheffler is now T-4 after finding the bottom of the cup at par-3 12th. He remains bogey-free on Sunday and is within two shots of the lead after Sam Burns bogeyed at No. 4.
Sam Burnsโ lead is down to one shot after a bogey at the par-3th.
Cameron Young and Ryan Fox sit a shot back as the tension builds at Royal Birkdale.
A birdie putt at the par-5 14th came at the right time for Cameron Young who had yet to circle on his back nine.
He has four holes left and sits T-2 with Ryan Fox, one shot off Sam Burnsโ lead at 10 under.

Scottie Scheffler put together a 3-under 31 on the front nine at Royal Birkdale but his last two holes were something of a disappointment as two birdie opportunities from less than 6 feet turned into a pair of 4s.
Schefflerโs birdie attempt on the par-4 ninth came up slightly right of the hole.
He sits three shots back of Sam Burnsโ lead.
He just missed another at the eighth to remain at 7 under.
