Ryan Gerard and Viktor Hovland enter the weekend in Atlanta in prime shape to take home the biggest payday of the season — a $10 million check that awaits the FedExCup champion on Sunday in the winner’s circle at East Lake Golf Club.
One has Tour Championship experience, the other has none.
Hovland hoisted the big trophy and cashed that eight-figure check just four years ago when he stood in the winner’s circle and celebrated with uncorked bottles of champagne after routing Xander Schauffle on this same course. Gerard is one of six “newbies,” players making their debut in Atlanta.
They each share part of the lead after 36 holes, going bogey-free on their respective back nines on Friday to get into the clubhouse at 10 under.
