‘Suddenly it was a 61': Rasmus Højgaard is third to tie Detroit course record in as many days

PGA Tour highlights: 2026 Rocket Classic, Round 3
Cameron Young lost the lead in Detroit and then tried to get it back on the back nine, ultimately falling out of the final grouping in Sunday's final round where he sits T-3. Davis Riley holds the lead over Michael Brennan. Those three players produced highlight moments on Moving Day, along with plenty of others in Motown.

If you hear Rasmsus Højgaard tell it, the key to shooting 61 is not thinking about it.

The 25-year-old Dane tied the course record at Detroit Golf Club during his third round on Saturday — the latest player to hit that number in the Motor City this week.

Peter Malnati shot his career-low mark on Thursday, and was the first to get there this week. Cameron Young followed suit with a 9-under round of his own early Friday, propelled by a string of six straight birdies.

“Don’t know if I at any point knew it was going to be a special round. I just sort of tried to give myself chances,” said Højgaard, who will go off in the final grouping on Sunday as he pursues his first career PGA Tour win.

“I just felt like I played nicely all day and yeah, suddenly it was a 61.”

Like the rest of the field, Højgaard’s final round will be impacted by rain storms that are moving through the Detroit area overnight and into Sunday morning. The PGA Tour announced Saturday a shift to groupings for the final round.

He will be in the final threesome with Davis Riley and Michael Brennan. Riley carries a one shot lead over the 24-year-old Brennan.

“I’ll have to see where I’m at at the end of the day,” Højgaard said. “If I can play somewhat of what I did today, I like my chances tomorrow. But again, I’m not too focused on that. Today, I stayed present, I didn’t get ahead of myself; and, yeah, that’s the game plan for tomorrow. Take one hole at a time.”

The Rocket Classic’s final round will be played in groups as storms are expected to threaten Detroit Golf Club overnight and into Sunday morning.
