It was one of the biggest talking points of the 2010 Ryder Cup – the rain suits. The Americans’ gear was widely – and very publicly – reported to have failed, or was at least ineffective to the point that they found alternative means to remain dry during the ultra-wet conditions in Wales that week.

Their solution? Proquip weather gear – the same gear worn by the European team.

But launching in the U.S. in 2011, ProQuip USA will offer the same suit – the “Tour Flex” – that each Ryder Cup team ultimately finished the week wearing, as well as their full line, which also offers a lighter version of that suit – the “Ultralight.”

“We had been planning a launch in the U.S. in 2011 right at (the time of the Ryder Cup) and when everything happened (with the faulty rainsuits), it was just the icing on the cake to prepare for our launching,” Peter Dalton, CEO of Proquip USA told “Leading Edge.” “Since then, the response has been overwhelming because everyone was wondering about those suits Tiger Woods and all those guys were wearing at the Ryder Cup.

“We’re one of very few products out there that have any story behind them. So we pride ourselves on obviously having that performance in our product, but we are also able to offer a good price point as well, which we feel is a great combination.”

Officially launching at a date yet to be determined this year, Proquip’s “Tour Flex” jacket will retail at $220, with matching pants at $180, and the “Ultralight” jacket will retail at $180, with matching pants at $160. A ladies model of the “Ultralight” jacket and pants will retail at $180 and $110, respectively.
