Texas-sized Golf in San Antonio

What comes to mind when you think of San Antonio? For me, it was Riverwalk, Tex-Mex and the Alamo. I also expected some Texas-sized courses, good county music and a little bit of "boot scooting." But "San Antone" is so much more, and you've got to see it for yourself. Trust me, it's worth it to dust of your boots and take on that Texas heat!

If you know anything about me, you know I would never leave you hanging on great dining options the whole family can enjoy. "La Hacienda" is now one of my all-time favorite restaurants. It’s not surprising, as I have an obsession with guacamole and will always follow my nose to great Mexican food. But true "Tex-Mex” is one thing you can really experience in San Antonio—with over 800 Tex-Mex options (you think I'm kidding, don't you?), you're bound to stumble on a winner. Well, the 'Guac gods' must have been smiling down on me, because La Hacienda took the "W." This place is perfect! Parents can appreciate it too, because you can not only get a signature margarita, but you can also enjoy it while the kids check out the on-premises playground. Success! Also, be sure to pick up one of Diana Barrios Trevino's cookbooks so that you can recreate those great dishes even after your vacation has come to an end!

And the golf? You'll see what I mean with my preview of Hyatt Hill Country Golf Club, The Quarry, La Cantera, Pecan Valley, "Old Brack" and TPC San Antonio. With the combination of year-round, golf-friendly weather and southern hospitality, this is what a good day on the greens is all about. Two of my favorite guests were former San Antonio Spurs David Robinson and Sean Elliott. They were absolutely hilarious together and great fun to catch up with. They are very busy guys and were both up to quite a bit these days!

The Must-do Activity? Tube down the Guadalupe River with the guys from the Lone Star Float House! In all honesty, no "guides" are necessary. This activity is all about refreshment and relaxation. Just watch out for the "Chute”! :)

Best time to go: Spring and summertime. With golf, tubing and horseback riding at your fingertips, it’s always better in the sun!

The Guest List: Another guacamole aficionado—or at least someone who likes a little bit of a "kick" in their salsa—and extra bbq sauce on their ribs.
