PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. – Heath Slocum’s wife, Victoria, is doing better after doctors discovered that she was suffering from the effects of a large kidney stone earlier this week. Her husband isn’t doing to bad either.
Slocum shot a second-round 66 to move into a tie for second place at The Players Championship, one shot behind Lee Westwood, but Victoria was never far from his thoughts.
“I haven’t gotten much sleep,” Slocum said.
Victoria Slocum awoke Tuesday night in intense pain and she was taken to a Ponte Vedra Beach-area clinic by Slocum’s manager. On Thursday she drove home to Alpharetta, Ga., to see a specialist.
“We talked briefly this morning and she doesn’t have to have surgery,” Slocum said. Instead, doctors will use a form of ultra sound to break up the stone.
The worst part for the Slocums is that this is the third year they planned to spend Mother’s Day together at The Players and the third time either a sickness or family emergency changed their plans. “She’s really disappointed,” Slocum said.
