DORAL, Fla. – Bill Haas’ victory earlier this year at the Bob Hope Classic came with the ultimate perk for a son of the south: An invitation to play the Masters. And the South Carolina resident is making the most of it.
Two weeks ago he skipped the Waste Management Phoenix Open for a scouting trip to Augusta National, which he'd played with his father, Jay, while he was in high school but never under tournament conditions. He also plans to make another trip down Magnolia Lane on March 22.
“Every year I’ve gone up there I’m pulling for someone, so it will be a totally different nervousness,” Haas said. “I had a little nervousness when I went up there last month and there were no people or anything. It’s going to be different.”
As for his impressions of the golf course, Haas’ assessment was a familiar one: “Long.”
