AUGUSTA, Ga. – Rory McIlroy got a laugh in the Masters media room Saturday when he relayed a message from his pal, Graeme McDowell, a fellow countryman from Northern Ireland.
“Actually, he just texted me and told me he loves me,” McIlroy said. “I don’t know if that’s him or the beer talking.”
McDowell, winner of last summer’s U.S. Open, missed the Masters’ cut on Friday, but he stuck around to follow McIlroy on Saturday at Augusta National.
“It’s great to see him out there, and I appreciate his support,” McIlroy said. “He’s going to know how I’m feeling. He’s a major champion, and he got it done last year at Pebble.”
