New York officials trying to get Ryder Cup at Bethpage

Ryder Cup

FARMINGDALE, N.Y. – It’s no secret that New York State officials would like more big-time golf tournaments at Bethpage Black. It is newsworthy, though, that they’ve already started preliminary discussions to try to bring another to the two-time U.S. Open venue, according to a report.

Administrators from the office of Gov. Andrew Cuomo have met with outgoing PGA of America CEO Joe Steranka about bringing the 2024 edition of the Ryder Cup to Bethpage, Newsday reported.

“Bethpage has hosted the U.S. Open twice, now The Barclays,” said Larry Schwartz, secretary to the governor. “I think the Ryder Cup would be a home run.”

With the event already slated for Hazeltine in 2016 and Whistling Straits in 2020, the 2024 edition is the next U.S.-based Ryder Cup that doesn’t currently have a home venue.
