Bombs of the Week: Pebble Beach

Each week, GolfChannel.com will take a detailed look at the players who pounded the farthest and fastest tee shots on the PGA Tour. Here are the four most important distance-related stats from the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am, won by Brandt Snedeker:

Longest drive: Sean O’Hair, 355 yards

O’Hair’s biggest blast of the week came on the 390-yard, par-4 third hole at Pebble Beach Golf Links. (He eventually tied for 16^th.) It’s quite a poke considering the cool, damp air on the Monterey Peninsula – and a stark contrast to what Tour players experienced the previous week, in the Arizona desert. The longest drive of the season still belongs to Kyle Stanley, who recorded a 428-yard moon shot on the Plantation Course at Kapalua, which features wide, undulating fairways and severe elevation changes. 

Last four leaders: Waste Management Phoenix Open: Gary Woodland, 379 yards; Farmers Insurance Open: Scott Gardiner, 367; Humana Challenge: Patrick Reed, 357; Sony Open: Dustin Johnson, 381 yards

Carry distance: Robert Garrigus, 292.4 yards

Garrigus tied for 22^nd at Pebble Beach, but at least he owned the biggest carry of the week. Even with the cooler conditions, Garrigus’ farthest-flying drive compared well with the other blasts at various Tour stops this season.

Last four leaders: Phoenix: Jason Day, 311.3 yards; Farmers: Dustin Johnson, 312.9; Humana: Robert Garrigus, 299.8; Sony: John Daly, 296.0

Highest clubhead speed: Jason Day, 121.45 mph

The Australian is swinging it well, even if his 299.8-yard average off the tee is his lowest since 2010. Day shot a final-round 67 at Pebble Beach to finish solo sixth, his second top-10 of the season. No player has a higher clubhead speed than the 124.61 mph that Dustin Johnson posted en route to winning the season-opening Hyundai Tournament of Champions.

Last four leaders: Phoenix: Bubba Watson, 122.48 mph; Farmers: Gary Woodland, 123.61; Humana: Luke List, 123.7; Sony: Harris English, 119.72

Highest ball speed: Robert Garrigus, 178.51 mph

At Pebble Beach, Garrigus had both the longest carry distance and highest ball speed. He topped out at 178.51 mph this week, though that was more than 3 mph less than Bubba Watson’s best effort in Phoenix. 

Last four leaders: Phoenix: Bubba Watson, 181.89 mph; Farmers: Luke List, 181.69; Humana: List, 181.15; Sony: Harris English, 177.79
