Solheim: Breaking down Day 2 fourball matches

DUNSANY, Ireland – The Americans face pressure to cut into Europe’s 7-5 lead in Saturday afternoon’s fourballs.

Here are the matchups (Eastern Times):

7:45 a.m. – Brittany Lang and Michelle Wie (USA) vs. Laura Davies and Melissa Reid (Europe)

The lowdown: Davies and Reid lost a tough match Friday afternoon, taking a formidable duo of Creamer and Pressel to the final hole in fourballs. With home-course advantage, the English duo will give Lang and Wie an even tougher time.

Advantage: Europe

8 a.m. – Morgan Pressel and Cristie Kerr (USA) vs. Suzann Pettersen and Caroline Hedwall (Europe)

The lowdown: Pettersen’s 2-0 so far and rested after taking the morning off. Hedwall’s also 2-0 coming off a morning rout. Looks like a dangerous combo with Pressel hot, but Kerr is managing an ailing wrist in a fourth consecutive match.

Advantage: Europe

8:15 a.m. – Stacy Lewis and Ryann O’Toole (USA) vs. Sandra Gal and Christel Boeljon (Europe)

The lowdown: Lewis is off to a surprisingly rough start, losing in a pair of lopsided matches. She’s due and can be a birdie machine if she gets a cold putter warmed up. O’Toole’s on a marvelous roll (1-0-1) as a rookie, shrinking this big course with big drives.

Advantage: USA

8:30 a.m. – Paula Creamer and Brittany Lincicome (USA) vs. Maria Hjorth and Azahara Munoz (Europe)

The lowdown: Creamer and Lincicome won a foursomes match together already this week. Creamer’s playing very well, just what Lincicome needs to freewheel and get on one of her runs.

Advantage: USA
