Breed named PGA Teacher of the Year

Michael Breed, the host of the Golf Channel instructional program, “The Golf Fix,” has been named the recipient of the 2012 PGA Teacher of the Year award. He will be honored during the PGA of America Awards ceremony on Jan. 24, 2013, in Orlando, Fla.

Breed, 50, is currently in his 12th season as PGA head professional at Sunningdale Country Club in Scarsdale, N.Y. Breed, of Greenwich, Conn., is among Golf Digest’s Top 50 instructors in the U.S., and since 2003 has been listed as a top-100 instructor by Golf Magazine. His current students include recent Web.com Tour winner Darron Stiles, Ron Whitacker and LPGA champion Meghan Francella.

Mike Schultz, who is only the second PGA head professional at Hazeltine National Golf Club, will be recognized as the 58th recipient of the PGA Golf Professional of the Year award. A 37-year member of the PGA of America, Schultz is retiring from Hazeltine at the end of the season.

Bill Strausbaugh Award: Harry Hammond Jr., West Chester, Pa.

Horton Smith Award: Carl Alexander, Bedford, N.Y.

PGA Player Developmental Award: Mark Holiday, Bozeman, Mont.
