Golf Channel has learned Carnoustie, site of seven men's Open Championships, will host its first Ricoh Women's British Open in 2011.
The famed Scottish links has twice played host to the Ladies British Amateur (1961, 1973) but this will be the first women's professional major to be played at Carnoustie.
The Ricoh Women's British Open will be played this year at Royal Lytham St. Annes Golf Club from Jul 30th-Aug 2nd, next year it will return to Royal Birkdale site of the 2005 championship.
In July 2008, a joint agreement was announced between EventScotland, the Scottish national event agency, and the Ladies Golf Union which organizes the Ricoh Women's British Open, to bring the championship to Scotland five times between 2011 and 2020. In addition to Carnoustie, the event is also expected to return to St. Andrews, site of the 2007 tournament. An official announcement is expected soon.
