ST. SIMONS ISLAND, Ga. – Paul Casey wrapped up an untidy 70 with a bogey at Seaside’s ninth hole late Friday and with it a season that the Englishman would rather forget.
Although Casey’s 1-under total was good enough to make the cut he withdrew following Round 2 because of “illness,” according to PGA Tour officials. Casey is not in the field next week at Disney and his next scheduled start will be the unofficial WGC-HSBC Champions next month.
The withdrawal concludes Casey’s worst Tour season. He posted just a single top 10 and is currently mired at 127th in earnings, although his status on the World Golf Ranking (20th) would qualify him for many events next season.
Cameron Beckman also withdrew, but is scheduled to play next week at Disney, and Brian Davis pulled out following two holes on Saturday with a neck ailment.
