Charity case: Monty extends invite to Woods for Euro event

Either this is a thinly-veiled insult or Colin Montgomerie is about to be a PR genius.
European stalwart Montgomerie says he is worried about the decline of Tiger Woods, especially after his missed cut at the PGA Championship. With Woods’ game being viewed in a range of opinions from shambles to crumbling, Monty suggests Tiger get in some starts during the FedEx Cup playoffs in Europe.
With Woods ineligible to compete in the four-tournament series because he did not earn enough points in his eight PGA Tour starts in 2011, Woods could play in the European Tour thanks to an invite from tournament chair Montgomerie.
“I’ve asked him as I have invitations available,” Montgomerie told the Daily Mirror. “We haven’t had a reply yet. Tiger looks like he’s going to have nowhere to play for nearly three months.
“It would be superb if he accepted. I know he has his children to think about, and all that sort of stuff that goes with family commitments, but wouldn’t it be great if he did say yes to any of our European Tour events? If you don’t ask, you don’t get, so it’s worth a go.”
It is a place to play for the next month, so it’s not that bad of an idea. Tim Rosaforte suggested Woods play in a Nationwide Tour event stateside to get reps, but the European Tour seems slightly less humbling.
