Bob Charles, 76, beat his age by 10 shots on Friday on the European Senior Tour.
"That was one of of those dream rounds," said Charles, who was the first southpaw to win a major championship at the 1963 British Open.
"I have had some great days in my career, and this is one of them. I felt young again."
The left-hander shot 66 in the second round of the Bad Ragaz PGA Seniors Open in Switzerland to jump into a share of third place at 4 under.
Charles officially retired from competition at this tournament two years ago but returned out of love for the Swiss event.
The Kiwi smashed his own tour record of beating "age par." He previously had beaten his age by five shots on the circuit. Charles also is the oldest player to make a cut on the European Tour, finishing 23rd in the 2007 New Zealand Open at age 71.
He wasn't the only one to challenge his age on Friday. Gary Player shot 72.
