Paula Creamer will miss a major championship for the first time in her professional career.
Creamer withdrew today from next week’s Kraft Nabisco Championship, the LPGA’s first major championship of the season, according to her management team.
Creamer, 23, is rehabilitating from a stretched ligament in her left thumb, an injury that caused her to withdraw after the first round of the LPGA season opener in Thailand last month. She also withdrew from the HSBC Champions in Singapore and the year’s first American event, this week’s Kia Classic in Carlsbad, Calif. Creamer originally hurt her thumb hitting a shot out of the rough during the Wegmans LPGA last June.
Since turning pro in 2005, Creamer has competed in all 20 major championships staged. Her best finishes were a tie for third at the 2005 McDonald’s LPGA Championship and last year’s Women’s British Open.
