Creamer would love Augusta to host LPGA event

When Masters chairman Billy Payne was working in the early 1990s to bring the Olympics to Atlanta, he was able to procure the support of Augusta National to host the game's return to the Games for men and women.

Ultimately, golf would have a 16-year wait from the '96 Olympics before it got the nod that it could regain entry and a women's tournament hasn't yet been held at Augusta National. Current LPGA players, however, are still eager to play in a tournament at the home to the Masters.

"Are you kidding me? Of course that would be something. That's when we'd know we had really made it, if something like that happened," said Paula Creamer at the LPGA Mobile Bay Classic, according to the Mobile Press-Register.

Brittany Lincicome said, "Even just to get an invite to go play a practice round or to go and play that golf course would be amazing."

Wendy Ward hinted that the possibility has been discussed in the past.

"I know that there's different sponsors who have entertained that idea. The Kraft Nabisco-Dinah Shore is the one that the players have always felt is kind of our Masters. But there's something unique. We all stay home and watch (the Masters) that week," she said.

A dissenting view came from Angela Stanford, the Texan who has already won this season in Singapore.

"I think they need to allow a female member before they even talk about that. Me personally, no, I wouldn't like that," she said. "I think Kraft Nabisco is kind of like our Masters. I love that tradition. I love everything about that event. People say that parallels the Masters and I think that's great for us."
