Dufner feeling good heading into weekend

Jason Dufner

AUGUSTA, Ga. – For a tournament that historically doesn’t begin until the back nine on Sunday, this week’s event is taking on a Masters marathon feel for Jason Dufner.

Dufner, runner-up at the last major played in Georgia (2011 PGA Championship in Atlanta), arrived at Augusta National last Wednesday and has clocked 117 holes on the course.

So, the only question worth asking on Friday following his second-round 70 was whether he was tired?

“No, I’m good,” said Dufner, who is tied for the lead with Fred Couples at 5 under heading into the weekend. “I didn’t play anything on Wednesday, took Wednesday completely off. Played some casual rounds here, which wasn’t too bad. So, I’m feeling pretty good.”

Although his experience last year at Atlanta Athletic Club should help him this weekend at Augusta National, Dufner has struggled closing out events this year. He’s failed to break par on the weekend since early February and his final-round scoring average (71.17) ranks 76th on Tour.

“I have been feeling really good about my game,” he said. “Couple of rounds here and there, had a really bad nine holes at Bay Hill . . . I’m just kind of searching to put four together.”
