CHARLOTTE, N.C. Already lacking some star power with Tiger Woods and eight other top-10 players skipping this week’s event, the Wells Fargo Championship took another hit on Tuesday as Dustin Johnson withdrew from the field.
The reason given was listed as an ‘irritated left wrist.’ Johnson also missed last year’s edition of the tournament due to an injury.
On Friday, Johnson tweeted:
Really looking forward to Charlotte!! Great city - great tournament! @WellsFargoGolf

His mood didn’t change over the weekend, either. On Monday morning, he wrote:
Fired up and ready to go!! @WellsFargoGolf

In his last start, the long-hitting Johnson finished T-13 at the Masters. In 10 PGA Tour starts this season, he owns just two top-10s, though one was a victory at the season-opening Hyundai Tournament of Champions.
Rory McIlroy, who lost in a playoff to Rickie Fowler at Quail Hollow last year, remains the lone top-10 player in this week’s field.
