Early forecast for Medinah: nice temps, no rain

Looks like there won’t be any rain-gear malfunctions at this year’s Ryder Cup.

The extended forecast (through Sunday) for Medinah, Ill., calls for temperatures in the upper-60s, partly-cloudy skies and moderate winds. The best part? No rain is expected. For now.

Surely that is welcome news for the PGA of America, which two years ago endured a rain-soaked Ryder Cup that resulted in the event’s first-ever Monday finish. Worse, the U.S. team had to purchase new rain suits from the merchandise tent when the ones they brought didn’t keep them dry enough.

Indeed, it was a wet and wild 2010 Ryder Cup at Celtic Manor in Wales, as tournament organizers crammed the 28-match event into four sessions, not the usual five, after heavy rain forced play to be suspended during the first day. The singles matches were then played on Monday – the fourth day of the event – for the first time.

The extended forecast for Medinah Country Club, located about 30 miles west of Chicago:

Tuesday: 76 degrees, partly cloudy, 6-12 mph winds

Wednesday: 71 degrees, mostly sunny, 8-15 mph winds

Thursday: 67 degrees, partly cloudy, 6-12 mph winds

Friday: 69 degrees, partly cloudy, 8-15 mph winds

Saturday: 70 degrees, mostly sunny, 8-15 mph winds

Sunset is scheduled for 6:44 p.m. CT.
