European Solheim Cup captain Alison Nicholas has four decisions to make on Monday morning. Nicholas will have four captain’s picks to appoint to her squad headed to Ireland’s Killeen Castle next month.
Four of the team members were officially settled after the Canadian Women’s Open. The players were selected from their standing on the Rolex Rankings. Maria Hjorth, Anna Nordqvist and Sophie Gustafson of Sweden were joined by Catriona Matthew on the team.
Melissa Reid, Laura Davies, Suzann Pettersen and Christel Boeljon from the Netherlands made the team off their standing on the Ladies European Tour points list.
With four players to be named, there are a handful of likely contenders for the spot. The announcement will be made Monday at 9 a.m. ET live on Golf Channel.
Caroline Hedwall: The Swedish rookie is having an outstanding year, winning twice on the LET. She finished in mediocre position at the Canadian Women’s Open, but seems a likely selection.
Azahara Munoz: Last year’s LPGA Rookie of the Year has just one top-10 finish this year in 15 starts.
Sandra Gal: The German stared down Jiyai Shin earlier this year for a win at the Kia Classic and has done modestly well on the LPGA in 2011.
Diana Luna: The Italian has two wins on the LET in 2011 and three other top-5 finishes. The slam on her is recent struggles, including several missed cuts.
Becky Brewerton: Sitting at seventh on the LET points list, Brewerton has Solheim experience and a good 2011 under her belt with four top-5 finishes.
