PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. – Jim Furyk has made it a habit of delivering some of the more thoughtful, sincere and insightful interviews on the PGA Tour. Wednesday at The Players was no different.
He was asked if he could pinpoint a reason why he’s never won The Players in 15 attempts. He paused for several moments and delivered a beauty.
“I’m deciding whether I want to tell you the truth or lie to be honest with you,” he said with a smirk.
“No, I have to tell the truth. It’s an age of architecture that you know that I’ve never been all that comfortable with. When I stand on most of the holes early on in my career I was not comfortable with this golf course at all. It’s a manufactured golf course.
“Now that I’ve played here a lot, I’ve gotten used to it, and it’s not disturbing to me off the tee.”
There you go, the refreshing, honest truth.
