Golfs spotlight on South Carolina

As I watched Dustin Johnson, a product of South Carolina, win his third PGA Tour title Sunday, I started to reflect on my life growing up as a junior golfer in the Palmetto State. I remember long warm days on the putting green, taking on all comers for a quarter a hole. Win enough and I could buy a hot dog in the pro shop. I was highly motivated.

I think I still have some old mustard-stained shirts from those lazy and care free times. Junior golf in South Carolina has grown dramatically since those days. U.S. Open champion Lucas Glover and PGA Tour winners Johnson, D.J. Trahan, Jonathan Byrd, Bill Haas and Big Break winner Tommy “Two-Gloves” Gainey all represent their home state well.  And all this wouldn't be happening without the South Carolina Junior Golf Foundation and the folks that support it.

Two wins in the first six PGA Tour events of 2010. Great job, South Carolina.
