The bracket for next week’s WGC-Accenture Match Play Championship will not be completed until after the World Golf Ranking is released late Sunday following play at the Northern Trust Open and the Avantha Masters on the European Tour but the current lineup features plenty of intriguing Round 1 matchups.
Based on the current ranking, and reports that Phil Mickelson (family obligations) and Paul Casey (injured shoulder) will skip the season’s first World Golf Championship, world No. 1 Luke Donald would play No. 66 George Coetzee, No. 2 Lee Westwood would tee off against Ernie Els (No. 65), Rory McIlroy would face Nicolas Colsaerts (No. 64) and Martin Kaymer would meet Greg Chalmers (No. 63).
No. 18 Tiger Woods would play Retief Goosen. At the 2000 Match Play the South African lost to Woods in Round 2, 1 down, and defeated him in Sunday singles play at the 2005 Presidents Cup, 2 and 1.
The current bracket would also feature a Brandt Snedeker-Kyle Stanley sequel. Snedeker beat Stanley in a playoff at Torrey Pines two weeks ago.
