MARANA, Ariz. – Poor Steve Stricker.
On his 44th birthday Wednesday, he got beat by 17-year-old Matteo Manassero.
Reminders of youth were everywhere for Stricker.
“It was funny,” Rory McIlroy said. “On the range this morning, there were four guys, myself, Matteo, [Ryo] Ishikawa and Steve Stricker. Stricker was pushing the average age up by a bit there, so it was funny.”
McIlroy is 21, Ishikawa 19.
Stricker will play the WGC-Cadillac Championship at Doral in two weeks, the Transitions Championship in Tampa the week after that and the Shell Houston Open in five weeks as prep for the Masters, where he will be among the favorites to win.
