Reports suggest Portrush may host an Irish Open

The Irish Open may have a new home in a new country in 2013.

Multiple Irish-based reporters said on Sunday that the Irish Open is likely heading for Northern Ireland in two years’ time, likely to be played at Royal Portrush. Brian Keogh of Irish Golf Desk suggested the date and venue via Twitter.

Simon Dyson won the the Irish Open this summer at Killarney Golf & Fishing Club for the first of his two 2011 wins.

With Michael Hoey‘s career-defining win at the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship on Sunday, the Ulstermen of professional golf have two majors and five European Tour wins this season. Add on Graeme McDowell‘s U.S. Open win last June and Northern Ireland is on an incredible roll.

After their respective major wins, all three Ulster major winners have expressed a desire to bring at least one European Tour event to their country, if not the Open Championship.
