At Johns Hopkins Hospital on Thursday, J.B. Holmes underwent successful surgery to relieve pressure on the cerebellum and brain stem that has been caused by Chiari malformations.
Last week, Holmes announced he would be undergoing the procedure in Baltimore after consulting with doctors at the renowned hospital. Holmes had been experiencing symptoms of the condition similar to vertigo since just after the Memorial in late May.
The procedure performed by Dr. George Jallo went great according to Holmes’ agent Terry Reilly.
“There was significant pressure on the brain that they were able to relieve. Several days of recuperation at Johns Hopkins and then [he] will head home to fully recuperate,” Reilly said in an email.
Holmes expects to be out of action for three months, resuming light golf practice in a month and ramping up to a return to the PGA Tour before the end of 2011.
