Jimenez calls penalty on self drops lead by one

Miguel Angel Jimenez called a one-shot penalty on himself during the third round of the Omega European Masters, knocking his lead down to three shots heading into Sunday's final round.

On the 10th hole, Jimenez picked up his ball 'like it was preferred lies.' The ball had come to rest near a sprinkler-head. Instead of checking his stance to find out whether it was going to infringe on his second shot, he simply marked the ball and picked it up – 'What are you doing?' he told reporters was his reaction to himself.

The penalty was only realized by the tournament scoring system after Jimenez finished his round changing a 67 to a 68 and giving him a three-shot cushion over last week's winner, Edoardo Molinari.
