PITTSFORD, N.Y. – One of Stacy Lewis’ goals this year was to become the highest ranked American in the world.
With Monday’s release of the Rolex Women’s World Rankings, she was elated to reach that ambition. It didn’t sit well with Cristie Kerr, though.
Lewis jumped over Kerr to become top American in rising to No. 3 in the world.
“It does fire me up,” Kerr said. “I don’t like it. That’s really all I can say about that.”
Lewis reached her ambition more quickly than she imagined she could.
“I’ve blown my goals for the year out of the water,” Lewis said.
That realization prompted a meeting Tuesday with her swing coach, Joe Hallet.
“We didn’t really talk much about the golf swing,” Lewis said. “It was more, where do we go from here? What goals do we set? It’s not winning tournaments or winning a number of events. It’s to put myself in contention. I think if you’re in the last group four times, you’re probably going to get it done at least once, just keep knocking on the door.”
