PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. – Dave Stockton Sr. is not in north Florida, which is all one needs to know about Phil Mickelson’s confidence at the moment.
Lefty raced out to a 5-under 31 early Saturday and played TPC Sawgrass’ famous last three in even par to sit at 9 under par after a third-round 66. He’s currently tied for sixth place as the leaders head out.
“I felt like things started to click today and feel like I have one more low round in me,” said Mickelson, who took just 27 putts on Day 3.
Whether “one more low round” will be enough to catch the leaders at the end of the day depends on how the afternoon conditions shape up. Currently, the Stadium’s greens are starting to get crusty and the winds are picking up.
