SAN DIEGO – I had a chance to spend a few quality minutes with two higher-ups with the Farmers Insurance Open this afternoon. They told me that Farmers Insurance inked a one-year deal with the PGA Tour that contains a multiple year option and all signs are positive that they will pick up the option.
It's hard to resist when you get weather like this in the San Diego area and you know that, barring freakish circumstances, Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson are regulars here. Kudos to the Zurich Financial family that includes Farmers Insurance for bringing relief to an event that is a shining example of PGA Tour golf in every way.
They were the first on the scene when the wildfires plagued Southern California a couple of years ago and they were instrumental in the Hurricane Katrina relief efforts. Now they are helping to support a true gem in the professional ranks. Who knows, perhaps this could become a long term partnership.
