McIlroy, Fowler to share Tiger Woods '13 cover

EA Sports announced Monday that Rory McIlroy and Rickie Fowler will share the cover with Tiger Woods in the 2013 edition of Tiger Woods PGA Tour video game.

Earlier this year, EA Sports put the cover athletes to a consumer vote on a dedicated Facebook page and more than 200,000 votes were cast.

Fowler was voted to share the cover of Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2013 with Woods for copies sold in the U.S. McIlroy will share the cover with Woods on copies distributed in Europe.

In the final vote, Fowler beat Bubba Watson by a margin of 51 percent to 49 percent. McIlroy drew more votes than world No. 1 Luke Donald by a margin of 54 percent to 46 percent.

“For someone that grew up playing Tiger Woods PGA Tour and is a huge fan of the franchise, this is a great moment in my career,” said Fowler.

For McIlroy, it will be the second time the Ulsterman has appeared on the cover of the game. McIlroy shared the cover with Woods in the 2011 edition of the game to promote the game’s new Ryder Cup feature in time for the matches at Celtic Manor.

“Appearing on the cover of Tiger Woods PGA Tour 11 was an amazing experience and helped introduce me to a whole new fan base around the world,” said McIlroy in a release. “But this year holds special meaning because it was the fans who decided to put me on the cover once again.”

The game will be released March 2012 with the covers for Fowler and McIlroy being released next month.
