McIlroy skipping PGA Grand Slam for Asian events

Less than two weeks removed from his eight-shot triumph at Kiawah Island, Rory McIlroy has decided he will not be playing in the PGA Grand Slam of Golf at season's end due to a scheduling conflict, Bermuda's Royal Gazette reported.
The Ulsterman is already committed to play in the BMW Shanghai Masters, which starts Oct. 25; the Grand Slam of Golf, a four-man exhibition among the reigning major champions, will be contested Oct. 22-24 in Bermuda.
As defending champion, Keegan Bradley will be first in line to replace McIlroy this fall at Port Royal Golf Course for the event which, like the PGA Championship, is conducted by the PGA of America. If Bradley cannot participate, Graeme McDowell would be the next option to join the field based on his performance across the majors in 2012. PGA officials hope to name McIlroy's replacement by early next week.
Masters champion Bubba Watson, U.S. Open champion Webb Simpson and British Open champion Ernie Els - who won this event in 2010 - are all expected to attend.
A trip to Shanghai is part of an Asian mini-tour this fall for McIlroy, who will also play an event in Turkey as well as an exhibition match against Tiger Woods in China on October 29.
